Working notes on container movements and yard practice.
Yard slot allocation
Assigning slots by departure time rather than by arrival reduces the number of rehandles per container. A box that leaves first should never be buried under one that leaves last, yet arrival-ordered stacking produces exactly that pattern whenever dwell times differ.
Weighing discrepancies
Declared and verified gross mass diverge most often on consolidated loads, where the shipper sums line weights but omits the packaging of the consolidation itself. The gap is usually small in percentage terms and large in absolute terms.
Reefer monitoring intervals
Hourly polling detects a failed unit late enough that cargo is already at risk in warm climates. Fifteen-minute intervals cost little in data terms and move detection inside the thermal buffer of a loaded container.
Documentation handover
Where paperwork travels separately from the box, the box waits. Attaching the reference at the point of loading and resolving it electronically on arrival removes most of the waiting without changing the physical flow.
